Introducing Elinor!

Updated: Jun 5, 2020

Sennies are proud to introduce the newest member of the Sennies family Elinor, who comes with a wealth of experience, is an SEN Nanny herself, an experienced actress and also diagnosed with Autism and ADHD.

Elinor Joined Sennies in May 2020 to ensure we could keep up with the high demand for SEN childcare during the Pandemic whilst continuing to provide a 5* service.

Our role at Sennies is different to that of any other recruiter and the reason we have been so successful thus far, is our understanding of the SEN community and SEN childcare needs from our professional and personal experiences.

We are very excited to have Elinor join the Sennies team as our Head of recruitment/admin and feel she is an invaluable member of the Sennies team and community.

A few words from Elinor:

"I’m Elinor, a professional actress, singer, teacher, SEN nanny and now Head of Recruitment and Admin at Sennies Childcare!

I trained in acting and musical theatre at one of the most prestigious drama schools in the country, and feel very privileged to have been involved in some wonderful professional performance projects over the past 10 years. You can even catch some of my work on Amazon, Sky and Itunes!

Whilst pursuing my career, I took on various ‘day jobs’ - from leading a front of house team at a west end theatre to managing a cosmetic store in a busy London shopping mall, I had my finger in every pie, however I found I was struggling to find a real purpose and joy within my work.

Having worked with children and young people throughout my performance career and even within my personal life, often helping out and teaching drama at the special educational needs school where my Grandmother was the deputy head, I realised how much I wanted to move into more permanent childcare and teaching roles.

I began working as a nanny in both full time, part time and in various ad hoc positions just over 5 years ago. My work included looking after children across a wide range of ages, from 12 weeks - 12 years old, and each child and family presented with them new and different challenges. I often found myself drawn to and building the strongest bonds with the children who had additional or special educational needs; Ad Hoc care for an active teenage boy with Down Syndrome, full time nanny to a busy household of 3 girls one with speech and language difficulties and another with ADHD, tutoring and holiday nannying for Twin Boys (11) with Autistic Spectrum Disorder and a long term role for over 2 years with 2 girls, both undergoing an assessment/diagnosis processes for Autism and Pathological Demand Avoidance.

I was diagnosed with Autism when I was 10 years old, and most recently with ADHD as an adult. I understand how scary it can be to hear that a child or loved one is living with something that is likely to make their everyday life more ‘difficult’ and require certain adjustments. However I also see how wonderful and exceptional people who see the world differently can be, and how if given the right support and understanding, can really thrive and flourish.

Finding the perfect person to love, care for, encourage and nurture your child is an important and tough task for any family, regardless of their child's individual needs or difficulties. This is why I was so excited to come across SENNIES - few agencies exist that supply ‘Nannies’ specifically for families who require a real knowledge and high level of experience of working with Special Educational, Neurodiverse and profound and multiple learning difficulties, and whilst many agencies may be comfortable or happy to supply people for those roles, there is no guarantee that those at the helm of the recruitment and placement process have the appropriate credentials or understanding to confidently fill the role and deal with the families needs/wants sensitively and effectively. This is where I believe SENNIES comes into its own, making it a wonderful company to be a part of.

I’m so pleased to have joined the SENNIE’S team, with my focus being on recruitment and looking after our super SENNIES, ensuring that they are up to our high standard as well as supporting them to find a fantastic family! "
